MICHAEL BLACK

FASHION STYLIST

FASHION DIRECTOR

DESIGNER

From an early age, Michael Black had a special bond with art and creativity, while experimenting with different media; he found his love for clothes. He began sewing at the age of 10 and successfully made of pair of shorts. At the age of sixteen, Michael Black was recruited as a junior denim specialist, who led designers for five major companies. Stylist Michael Black is wildly successful, styling for brands and celebrities all over the world. Multi-faceted, well dressed and hard-working, Michael is building his global brand from his head office in downtown, Toronto. Currently, Michael is flying to different parts of the world to style for editorials, runways and celebrities for red carpet appearances.

He believes that much of his success in the fashion world can be credited to the skills he learned while in school. “I think the biggest thing my education has taught me is time management and hard work. I use my business training in a fashion sense.”

Michael clearly has the “hard work” part down. His resume is substantial having worked with Kate Hudson, Pink Tartan, Mark Holden, and Donald Trump’s Miss Universe television pageant in 2012, which he says was the turning point in his career. “It was huge. I did the wardrobe for [the televised show] and I did the wardrobe for Miss Universe’s press tour. I put together 360 looks. It was lots of work. I had to learn very quickly. That is when everything sort of blew up for me.”

For Michael it is important that stylists get recognition that they’re not always just playing with clothes. “You have to understand the fashion world and apply a business ethic to it.”
